Water boilers, water fountains and water coolers for schools & colleges

Water is essential for life, and maintaining optimum hydration is important for the body to function efficiently. Numerous academic and government studies have shown that proper hydration can raise our ability to concentrate, improve our cognitive and physical performance, prevent tiredness and reduce feelings of aggression or irritation.

These studies have also shown that, on average, children of infant school age can require around 1.5 litres of water a day. In secondary schools this rises to at least 2 litres, and by college age 2.5 litres; working adults can need up to 3 litres. With our food contributing around 20% of that daily water requirement, the rest needs to be made-up within our fluid intake, showing the important contribution that drinking water can provide within anyone’s daily fluid intake, both students and teachers alike.

Case Study - St Peter’s Church of England Primary School, Portishead, Somerset

St Peter’s has served the community of Portishead for more than two hundred years and is the town’s largest primary school, with more than 530 pupils. In a recent survey, 95% of parents said their child is happy at the school.

Requirement

The school recently completed a £4.3m building programme including refurbishment of all existing classrooms plus an extension comprising a new hall and extra classrooms. During that programme, Glug Glug Glug were contacted by the school’s Business Manager regarding the provision of new water coolers for the extension, plus the need to review the existing provision of drinking water in the original building.

Solution

We visited the school to discuss with their Business Manager who in the school would be the main users, and meet with the building contractor to view proposed cooler locations. We proposed that four mains-fed water fountains, also suitable for filling bottles, would be needed for use by pupils, bracketed to the wall, for safety, and fitted with protective cowlings. We also identified that an additional mains-fed water cooler would be required in the staff room.

The School’s commitment to excellence depends on our obligation to enhance the wellbeing and life chances of our pupils. Regular hydration throughout the school day is an important factor for both pupils and staff in reinforcing the standards we aspire to. Glug Glug Glug fully-understand that concept, and worked closely with the school and our building contractors to identify our needs and schedule their installation work to ensure that this was completed on time.
